Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards

The Mental Capacity Act 2005 was developed to provide safeguards for any of us when we lack capacity to make decisions for ourselves. The existing safeguards have now been strengthened for people in particular situations, by amendments to the Act. These important changes to the Mental Capacity Act are known as the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards or DOLS

These are specifically for people who, because of their lack of capacity, are not able to agree to a particular care plan, and as a result, those people are potentially being deprived of their liberty.
